Aimpoint Micro Mounts
The Aimpoint Micro red dot sight has taken the world by storm. The Aimpoint Micro’s extreme lightness (3.7 ounces with the thumbscrew secured Picatinny mount supplied) makes it suitable even for 9mm autos. The Aimpoint Micro T-1 and 3x magnifier combination has already seen service in Afghanistan.
Both the manufacturer and US based companies were quick to produce a plethora of mounts for the Aimpoint Micro red dot sights. The most popular Aimpoint Micro red dot platform by far, however, is the AR15.
Aimpoint obviously wanted to have a comprehensive range of mounts in place for the Aimpoint T1 micro right from the start. Aimpoint include a very satisfactory thumb nut operated MIL STD 1913 rail mount with all their Micro sights. The manufacturer offers an Aimpoint Micro Quick Release Kit to modify the default mount supplied with the sight to quick detach configuration. This very neat and inexpensive steel unit takes the place of the thumb nut. To mount the Aimpoint Micro 4 MOA red dot sight on a rimfire Aimpoint offer a dovetail base which replaces the one supplied with the Micro and attaches to 3/8″ and 11mm dovetails found on US and European rimfies. Aimpoint had LaRue Tactical of Texas manufacture the Aimpoint LT660 mount which incorporates their patented locking quick release mechanism. With the LT660 back up iron sights will co-witness in the bottom third of the sight picture.
Daniel Defense decided to make a mount that would put the sight in the optimum co-witness position but make it non quick release. The Daniel Defense Micro Mount clamps to the rail with two substantial slot headed machine screws set into stainless steel inserts so as not to loosen under intense recoil and vibration. It offers a tunnel for the use of lower sightline iron sights and is reversible, snag free and very light at only 1.8 ounces.
The GG&G Accucam Aimpoint Micro Mount, a quality US made product, again puts the T1 at the optimum height for co-witnessing and uses their patented Accucam adjustable lever operated clamping mechanism which adjusts even to worn or non spec rails. Flip up lens covers are included to keep dirt and rain off your precious lenses.
A very low quick release mounting system is the American Defense Micro Mount or AD-T1-L. This mount replaces the base supplied with the Micro and is only .31 inches or 7.8mm from the point where it contacts the underneath of the sight to contac with the rail.
